Our tribute to Bev

1962 October - 2014 June

Created by Geoff 9 years ago
Bev was born at home in Islington to Bill and Pauline, on the 19th October 1962, above her Grandad’s butchers shop, a younger sister to Debbie and eventually an older sister to Jo. Bill and Pauline moved to Cheshunt in 1966, where Bev attended Brookland Infants. She was always a very quiet girl who loved nothing better than to read, so much so that Pauline was called in by the headmistress with concerns Bev would rather read books than play. By the time she left infants, she had read every book in the school library !! Brookland Juniors then followed and she continued to excel, so much so that Goffs Grammar school was offered to her but Bev settled on Turnford School, where she did very well which then led to 6th form and then leaving school in 1980 to start work at Midland Bank, Holborn Circus. Her long standing friendships with Jo and Roz begun and fortunately this is also where she eventually, in 1988 met Geoff and so began their partnership. They briefly settled in Bromley for a couple of years before moving back to Cheshunt and starting their family. Molly Paige arriving in 1997 and Harry William in 2000. Bev continued to work at the Bank now HSBC at Waltham Cross before leaving to join Turnford School in 2006 as a Teaching Assistant. More fantastic friendships with both pupils and staff were formed here at school. In fact one of the pupils she had helped sent a lovely message to Bev this week on her Facebook page, telling her of her recent achievements and how it wouldn't have been possible without Bev's guidance and help. Growing up, the girls were so very lucky to spend the spring and summer at their caravan, the New Beach Holiday Centre at Dymchurch, Kent, along with their nan and grandad, and loads of family members. Here the weekends were spent swimming in the pool and sea, walking over the hills, fruit picking , playing knock down ginger on the caravans, sing-a-longs at the end of the evening and of course drinking in the Neptune pub, obviously only once they had all reached 14 !!! Here again the girls formed lifelong friends and have memories of days’ that were carefree and very special. Bev loved holidays and once she started work Dymchurch was soon overtaken but never forgotten, for holidays abroad. Again the friends she holidayed with are all, to this day, still in contact. Family holidays were always special and in 2001, the family made their first visit to the beautiful Marco Island, Florida. Beverley fell in love with the place and revisited several times. These are memories I am sure Geoff and the family will remember forever. Beverley most certainly loved life, loved what she and Geoff had achieved together and her world was Geoff, Molly and Harry. She hated housework, but laughingly and with a wry smile she was happy to say “she had Geoff for that” !!! Beverley was first diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2011 and began her treatment with a positive attitude. However things did not go as planned and when secondary breast cancer was diagnosed in 2012 Bev was admitted to North Middlesex Hospital where she began the start of 5 months in various hospitals, where she remained positive and upbeat throughout her stay and treatment. This ran into the Christmas period and I know it was a particularly difficult time for Bev to be parted from her family. She was so proud of how Molly and Harry handled this, so selfless. Throughout this 5 months so many of her friends visited, from her childhood , neighbours, and from both places of work. She even had two friends visit from Hong Kong and Australia !! The girls from Turnford School also visited regularly and generally kept her spirits up with stories from school. Jo and Roz visited nearly every Saturday and as usual caused havoc with their stories and activities - operating the electric bed is one thing that springs to mind. Geoff and the family thank each and every one of you who visited Bev during this time from the bottom of their hearts. A year ago, Julie, Mary and Kelly put on a fund raising musical evening entitled 'One Night Only' at Turnford School for Bev and another member of staff who was also battling breast cancer. Bev attended this evening and was very proud of what her friends and pupils had achieved with regards to organising and performing. The evening raised £2,300 for breast cancer. During her illness she loved watching the London Olympics and when Geoff managed to get tickets for the paralympics at Stratford, she even found the strength to go with the aid of an electric scooter, so very Madge !! Bev was full of life and she could be so funny with her quick wittedness and one liners. This is something I know we will all miss about her, her frequent facebook status’s always made us laugh. Just loking through, and not able to use the rude ones, of which there were many, I came across this one …. “I had a large piece of wood on my wall that I kept all my Dusty Springfield records on, now Ive sold all my records, I just don’t know what to do with my shelf !” Priceless Bev, there were far too many funny stories we could recite today but I am sure if you ask any of the family or friends they will be able to relay one or two or probably a few. Music has always been a massive part of her life and she loved Wet, Wet, Wet, Bob Marley, Mick Hucknall and even Rod Stewart - this is a family trait I think !! Bev we all miss you and love you so much.
